This pressure washer has a built-in handle that makes it easy to carry along as you work. We were impressed that it operated equally well in both vertical and horizontal positions. Overall, this model is a solid choice for individuals looking for a balance of power and low cost.

PowRyte Electric Pressure Washer

If you need an affordable pressure washer for general outdoor cleaning tasks, such as refreshing your driveway and walkways or getting rid of mold and mildew on your deck, this model performed surprisingly well in real-world applications. It does have limitations, such as a short hose, but the low price still makes it a value.

Shark S5003D Genius Hard Floor Cleaning System Pocket Steam Mop

If you are in search of a versatile, intuitive and powerful steam mop that can handle just about any mess, this model comes highly recommended from the Testing Lab. It cleans up efficiently and doesn't leave dirty water streaks behind. We also loved that we controlled it through the press of a button instead of a dial.

Dirt Devil Portable Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner

Because of this model's compact size, it is easy to transport, letting you clean any mess you find, whether it is in the basement or in your SUV. The smaller tank might mean more refills, but it also makes the Dirt Devil easier to handle. We found it to be extremely effective at dealing with pet hair and other pet-related messes.

PurSteam 10-in-1 Steam Mop

The PurSteam Steam Mop is another budget-friendly option. While the Testing Lab concluded it worked best on floors, the many attachments offer astounding versatility, letting you clean in any room of the house. The water heats up in about 30 seconds and the swivel head makes it easy to clean around furniture.

Ryobi RY141802 1800 PSI 1.2 GPM Cold Water Corded Electric Pressure Washer 

This model isn't a top-of-the-line option. It is a budget pressure washer for homeowners looking for an easier way to solve outside cleaning tasks. The Testing Lab does not recommend this for heavy-duty work, but if you have light-duty maintenance tasks and you don't want to spend a lot of money, this is a solid option.

Sun Joe SPX3000 Electric Pressure Washer

Even though this model was a little heavier than expected, we really liked the way it performed. With the most powerful nozzle, the narrow stream of water can strip paint, so you can use this on your toughest cleaning tasks. This pressure washer performed so well that we were surprised it didn't cost more. 

Simpson Cleaning CM61083 Clean Machine 3400 PSI Gas Pressure Washer

This model is on our list for individuals who require a pressure washer for heavy-duty applications. It is ridiculously powerful. Thanks to the large pneumatic tires, it is easy to transport. This model tested beyond what is needed for typical home use and would be best suited for professionals.

There's an art to table-setting and some people don't know where to start. Not only do you need your essentials, but some decorative touches to tie the whole lot together. Here are some of the pieces you might need to set a table. 

• Linens: While a tablecloth or table runner isn't essential (and some people find them overly formal), you might want one for a special occasion. Floral prints are great for spring meals. Cloth napkins can also elevate a table setting. 
• Plates and bowls: Setting your table with any plates and bowls needed for the meal is a good idea when serving meals family-style. Again, floral prints are lovely for a spring-themed table. 
• Glassware: The type of glassware you'll need depends on the drinks you'll be serving, whether wine, beer, spirits, soft drinks, or just water. 
• Cutlery: You'll need to lay your table with the cutlery you'll need for the meal. You may just need one knife and fork per person, or you may need additional utensils, such as salad forks or soup spoons.

Should you get Amberen or Estroven?

Both Amberen and Estroven contain ingredients that are well established in providing relief for menopause symptoms, but they have their problems too. Amberen contains several synthetic ingredients and small amounts of MSG, and its proprietary formula hides dosages. Estroven provides completely natural menopause relief, but negative reviews describe either getting no relief or having an adverse reaction to the soy, black cohosh or rhubarb. Estroven is marginally cheaper and has the advantage of being only one pill per day instead of two with Amberen. Many women have found relief from symptoms after taking one or other of these supplements. Dell is more than meets the eye

What to look for

Receiving audio from your phone to the wireless earbuds generally isn't a concern. These little gadgets are excellent at letting you listen to your favorite workout playlist or soothing melodies. The same can be said for transmitting audio from a phone call.

However, it's not the audio quality that sets great earbuds apart from mediocre ones when it comes to taking calls. The most significant aspect is the built-in microphone; generally, the more earbuds have, the better it is.

The microphone is crucial, as it lets people on the other end hear you clearly. It's a call breaker when you must repeat yourself when the slightest breeze blows over the microphone. That's why it's best if the earbuds have more microphones because one can momentarily shut down while the others pick up the slack.

But you also need to focus on your conversation. Active noise cancellation is the best solution for that, as the earbuds use a series of additional microphones to block out ambient sounds or background noise. Another great feature that lets you focus on what matters is the inclusion of a sidetone. This lets you hear your voice during a phone call, so you don't shout.

Equally important is a stable Bluetooth connection, as the receiving and transmitting audio can cut out if the connection fails. It's best to look for earbuds that use the latest Bluetooth standard because it's less prone to disconnections. Here, it also helps if the earbuds have multipoint pairing, letting you connect them to multiple devices simultaneously.

They use speak-to-chat technology, which automatically reduces the volume during conversations, and the battery lasts around eight hours. They're water-resistant and easily recharged through Qi technology.

Galaxy Buds 2 True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds 

These Samsung earbuds are perfect for phone calls, as they have a low latency ambient sound mode that picks up the sounds you want to hear. So, you'll always have the perfect audio level between voice calls and your surroundings. There are three microphones on each earbud, and you can easily answer phone calls or switch between your music by simply tapping on the side.

What to know before you buy an OLED gaming monitor

Display size and image quality

Graphical quality is crucial for an enjoyable video game experience. The heavy lifting is done by the console or the computer’s graphics card, but that’s not all. The size of the monitor also plays a big role in clarity and level of detail.

While it’s usually better to have a big screen, consider where you play most of your games and available space there. A massive monitor isn’t always practical, and not all games look amazing on a curved display.

As for professional gamers, they almost always go for a 24-inch monitor. There are various reasons for this, but the most important is that, at this size, they can have faster frame rates than larger screens.

In terms of image quality, OLED is superior to traditional LED technology. It’s based on the same principle, but OLED uses organic molecules to produce colors through an electric current. This produces more vivid colors and a wider viewing angle while using less power.

Refresh rate

A monitor's refresh rate determines how many frames per second it can display. Most video games are coded for 60 frames per second, but some consoles and titles can go higher. Especially for multiplayer games or first-person shooters, 120 fps is becoming the standard.

Therefore, if you want your monitor to keep up with everything on the screen, it’s best to look for a high refresh rate, measured in hertz. You'll want at least 60hz for slower-paced games, while higher-paced games require at least 144hz. Some high-end monitors reach refresh rates of 500hz or more.

When there are fast-moving objects on the screen, such as in sports, racing or shooter games, a fast refresh rate can help to smooth out the images. But as video games become increasingly detailed, monitors need all the help they can get. That’s why a good-quality gaming display incorporates smoothing technology from two of the largest graphics card manufacturers.

Nvidia’s G-Sync and AMD’s FreeSync are essentially the same in their capabilities, primarily focused on eliminating screen tearing. This happens when the content’s frame rate is faster than the monitor, producing a glitch effect. G-Sync and FreeSync adapt the monitor’s frame rate to the graphics card instead of the card adapting to the monitor.

Multiple connections

You might only play video games on one platform at a time, but you don’t want to swap output cables when changing systems. The best solution for that is to get a monitor with multiple connections.

A few HDMI ports let you connect a computer and a gaming console, and you only need to press a button to access either. Depending on your needs, a few DisplayPort connections will come in handy, as will several USB ports.

Mountable on a wall

Gaming monitors can be relatively large, and if you have limited space on your desk, you might consider mounting the monitor. This can typically be done in several ways, but the two most common methods are mounting it on a wall with a bracket or keeping it upright through a monitor arm.

But there is one aspect that a good gaming monitor will have: compatibility with the VESA mounting system. The Video Electronics Standards Association set out a recommended design for the back of monitors. This ensures that the bracket and mounting holes line up perfectly with the monitor.

Another major con of Crosley record players is the actual build of some less expensive models lacking durability. Some users report that some pieces break or chip while others report malfunctions to the player itself. Some models sold by Crosley also lack an aux port, meaning that only Bluetooth speakers or internal speakers will work for the record player.

How to make Easter eggs

Making your own Easter eggs is a fun way to decorate your home. You can find endless tips for making the very best Easter eggs all over the internet, but the basic steps are generally the same.

• Step one: Hard-boil your eggs. Start by putting your eggs in a pot, then fill it with cold water until your eggs are covered by about an inch of water. Boil them on high for about 12 minutes. You won’t be eating these, so boil them a little longer if you want to be sure they’re properly hardened. When they’re done, drain the hot water and run cold water over the eggs until they’re safe to touch.
• Step two: Make your egg dye. McCormick has a recipe that calls for half a cup of boiling water, one teaspoon of white vinegar and enough food coloring until you get a color depth you like, which is about 10 to 20 drops.
• Step three: Decorate! The only instructions for this step are to have fun.

If you’ve never used a Nespresso before, you’re in for a treat. Nespresso machines use single-serve aluminum capsules to create rich, full-bodied espresso-like coffee with a layer of attractive crema on top. It’s espresso without the effort. Several brands make Nespresso machines, including famed appliance brands Breville and De’Longhi. Is a Breville or De’Longhi Nespresso machine better? 

We’ve researched the answer to this question, scrutinizing the specs of models by both brands and testing De’Longhi’s version of the popular Nespresso VertuoPlus model in the BestReviews Testing Lab. We’ve learned that Breville and De’Longhi Nespresso machines are all essentially the same on the inside. The main differences are in their exteriors and, to some extent, their price: Breville machines usually cost more. 

But there are a couple of exceptions. If you want a steam wand for latte art to re-create the cafe-style experience without having to make espresso, Breville’s Nespresso Creatista models should interest you. If speed and convenience matter more to you but you also want cafe-style drinks, you might consider De’Longhi’s Nespresso Lattissima.

Which manufacturer makes the better Nespresso machine?

Both Breville and De’Longhi make the same Nespresso models. If you’re trying to choose between Breville and De’Longhi for a model like the Nespresso Inissia, Essenza or CitiZ, you don’t need to worry about performance. They all produce Nespresso the same way, with the same features per model regardless of the brand, so pick the one with the price and exterior you prefer.

When you pay more, things change a little. Breville sells the top-of-the-line Creatista models that include a steam wand like true espresso machines. For its part, De’Longhi is the sole source of the Nespresso Lattissima line with integrated milk tank and foamer. As the most expensive and most capable Nespresso model, the Nespresso Creatista Pro by Breville can be considered the best Nespresso machine available.

Breville and De’Longhi often differ in the price of their versions of the same Nespresso model. Generally, Breville machines cost more than De’Longhi’s, although sales and discounts minimize some of these price differences.

Nespresso models made by Breville and De’Longhi can differ in their exterior design. Breville’s Vertuo machines, for example, are rounder and slimmer than Vertuo models by De’Longhi. Entry-level and mid-range models

Breville and De’Longhi offer the same entry-level and mid-range Nespresso machines. These can be mixed with water or milk to make caffe americanos, lattes, cappuccinos and more. Vertuo machines make the 40-milliliter espresso shot, plus drinks in 2.7-, 5-, 8- and 18-ounce servings.

Water tank

Nespresso machines have a built-in water tank that ranges in size from 20 to 56 ounces. The tank holds cool water that’s released into the machine during brewing. The tanks seem to be interchangeable between brands as long as the machine models are the same.

Heat and pressure

The Nespresso process uses hot pressurized water to brew the espresso-like drinks they produce. All Nespresso machines use the same amount of pressure, measured at 19 bars, which is more than necessary for making espresso by hand. Nespresso machines also automatically heat the water in 15 to 40 seconds, or as quickly as 3 seconds in the Breville Creatista Pro.

Drip pan

Each Nespresso machine has a drip pan for holding beverage containers and guarding against drips on the counter. These drip pans are removable and usually dishwasher safe.

Capsule container

Almost all Nespresso machines come with storage to hold used capsules, five or six in smaller models and 10 to 12 in larger machines.

Both Breville and De’Longhi Nespresso machines automatically power off after nine minutes of inactivity.

Milk preparation

Only the Creatista and Lattissima series offer built-in milk features. The milk must be prepared separately for all other Nespresso machines, but they may be bundled with Nespresso’s Aeroccino milk frother. Breville’s Creatista machines come with an espresso-style steam wand and a stainless steel milk pot. De’Longhi’s Lattissima machines have an integrated milk tank and frother for one-touch milk heating and preparation.

De’Longhi Nespresso machines cost from around $150 for the Nespresso Inissia to $550 for the Nespresso Gran Lattissima. You can get De’Longhi Nespresso machines on Amazon and other retailers where they’re sold as “by De’Longhi,” or from the De’Longhi website. All Lattissima machines, whether or not they’re labeled by De’Longhi, are made by De’Longhi.

Breville

Breville’s Nespresso machines cost more than De’Longhi’s. The Breville version of the Nespresso Inissia costs around $170, while the top-end Nespresso Creatista Pro costs $850. Breville Nespresso machines are available on Amazon and other major retailers as Nespresso “by Breville,” and from the Breville website.

Capsules

Genuine Nespresso original-line capsules cost from $0.79 to $0.95 each and are sold in sleeves of ten ($8 to $10 per sleeve).

Vertuoline capsules have different sizes for the different drinks they produce and cost from $0.98 per capsule for the most common ristretto flavors to $1.65 per capsule for 18-ounce carafe sizes, with single-origin premium coffee as high as $2.00 per 3.7-ounce double espresso shot. These capsules are sold in sleeves of ten for up to $20 per sleeve.

Nespresso capsules are available from the Nespresso website, Amazon and other retailers. There are third-party Nespresso original-line pods available as well, but no Vertuoline alternatives.

Does De’Longhi or Breville own Nespresso?

The Nespresso brand and system are owned by Swiss-based Nestlé, the largest food company in the world. Nestlé is the current owner of over 2,000 brands, including Carnation, Gerber and Stouffer’s, as well as its own core business of chocolate and dairy products. Nestlé’s signature coffee brand, Nescafé, became a household name in the mid-20th century after it was included as the instant coffee in US military rations during World War II.

Nestlé doesn’t make any Nespresso machines, but it develops the different models and licenses the designs to other manufacturers to produce. Breville, an Australian company, and De’Longhi of Italy are two of several companies Nestlé authorizes to make and sell Nespresso machines. Companies in other markets include Krups and Magimix.

The Deluxe model’s 60-ounce water tank is more than enough to handle the various drink sizes the Vertuo series can make; a smaller 40-ounce tank was included with our test unit. We particularly appreciated the one-button simplicity of the VertuoPlus and the way the water tank can be moved from the back to the side. It comes in black or gray.

Nespresso Gran Lattissima by De’Longhi

Final thoughts on De’Longhi vs. Breville Nespresso machines

Almost all De’Longhi and Breville Nespresso machines work the same and perform in the same way. The only differences are their exterior design and price: Breville machines are a little more expensive than De’Longhi machines. However, the top machines of each brand cater to different audiences. People who want something close to a real espresso machine, with a steam wand and milk jug, should look at Breville’s Creatista. Those who want push-button simplicity should go with De’Longhi’s Lattissima.

The importance of creativity in child development

“Creative activities are helpful for child development because creativity can help support a child’s executive functioning,” Ketchum said. She then defined executive functioning as the ability to have sustained attention to an activity, have flexibility in thinking and demonstrate persistence to complete a challenging activity. “These are all important early developmental skills that will aid children in future learning and academics,” she said. 

Allowing children to be creative also encourages emotional development. For example, by coloring a happy face or sad face, they learn to express their emotions before they know the words. Pretend play and imaginative play also help young children learn to play with others. 

The importance of creativity in child development goes on and on. Ketchum also said, “The ability to be creative is a skill that will help with critical thinking and the ability to solve simple problems and think through situations to find solutions. This is an important skill in teaching children to think for themselves.” 

How to encourage early childhood creativity

The great news is that it’s not difficult to help your child tap into their creative side. Children learn through play, so even when it looks like a fun activity, chances are your child is gaining valuable developmental skills by creating and using their imagination. The two main types of play are free play, also known as unstructured play, and guided play. Parents provide specific creative toys for kids or scenarios with guided play, such as board games, whereas adults do not dictate free play. Playing with arts and crafts supplies, for example, is free play. Both encourage creativity and are essential for child development.
